The St. Catharines Standard newspaper was founded by William Bartlet Burgoyne in 1891. The newspaper was owned and operated by four generations of the Burgoyne family until 1996 when it was sold. The Standard has been sold a few times since but continues to print dailies.
The Standard has an important place in the Museum’s collection. The photographs captured by reporters for almost 70 years make up a collection of a remarkable 600,000 photographs, which were donated to the Museum in 2000. These photos are invaluable to helping us share and celebrate the stories of our community.
