What if the Victorians had Twitter?
Victorian Tweets juxtaposes daily Victorian life found in newspapers, diaries, letters, and ephemera from the Museum’s archival collection against the modern Twitterverse.
The entries selected are interesting, quirky, mundane, snappy, rude, and pointless: just like Twitter. The exhibit imagines fictional Twitter Profiles and Tweets to help modern audiences engage with the archival collection in a familiar way.
As modern and progressive folks in the 21st century we enjoy a certain distance from the romanticized and contradictory Victorian Period. As you scroll through our Victorian Twitter Feed take notice: are we really as distanced from our Victorian ancestors as we like to believe?
