Artifact of the Week: Candy Mould and Cutter

This week’s artifact is a candy mould and cutter that came from Yurchuk Candies of St. Catharines. Yurchuk’s operated from 1960 until 2004.

  1. My parents were born in St Catharines in 1920. I’m sure my mother talked about Yurchuks being around when she was a child – at least long before 1960..

    • Hi Jane. Steve Yurchuk worked as a confectioner for many years at several shops in Brantford, Thorold, and other places. He was 66 years old when he finally opened his own shop in St. Catharines in 1960. So it is possible your mother remembered the name Yurchuk from one of the other shops he had worked at in the decades prior.
