Artifact of the Week: “Hess” Pitchfork

This week’s artifact is a pitchfork manufactured by the Welland Vale Manufacturing Company in St. Catharines. It was used by Scottish farmer David McLean in the capture of Nazi Deputy leader, Rudolph Hess in 1941.

  1. This is my favourite item in the museum! I love that it’s a ch a humble weapon, and was undauntingly used to apprehend a top nazi. But I really love that it’s turned up in St. Catharines. We always bring visitors to see ir.
