This is the first in a series of episodes that details the Fallen Workers of the Welland Canal. Over many years, a great amount of research has been conducted by many people to gather, record, and preserve the stories of the 137 who died building the Fourth Welland Canal. We hope that this series can be a platform for us to share the stories of these men and to honour their legacy in our community.

This podcast episode is the introduction to the Museum Chat Live! mini series on The Fallen Workers. We invited Des Corran, an avid researcher of the Fallen Workers and dedicated St. Catharines Museum volunteer, to the podcast to explore some of the major themes that have emerged in the vast research done on their lives and deaths. We consider the backgrounds of these men, the causes of their accidents, the impact their deaths had on their families and communities, and the commemoration of their legacy in the recently unveiled Fallen Workers Memorial.
