The St. Catharines Museum and Welland Canals Centre is happy to be a participant in this year’s In the Soil Festival. We’ll have two installations up and running at the 2016 Festival: our History InSite installation throughout downtown and our aMUSE pop-up museum exhibition in the interactive village.
History InSite is a site-specific photo retrospective using historic images from the Museum’s collection juxtaposed against their corresponding modern landscapes to highlight the dramatic physical and cultural shift in our urban environments. Six large-scale historic photographs will be installed around downtown. Maps will be available at our interactive village exhibit and online at http://www.stcatharinesmuseum.ca as well as this blog on the festival weekend.
Our aMUSE pop-up museum installation in the interactive village is part of our aMUSE 2016 season, which has our exhibitions popping up around public spaces throughout the City of St. Catharines. aMUSE is an award-winning, one night only, pop-up museum experience presented by the St. Catharines Museum & Welland Canals Centre. Each season of aMUSE brings items from the collection out into a social atmosphere where the public can view, discuss, interact and share their stories about the items in the museum’s collection. Our exhibit at this year’s In the Soil Festival is entitled “Inside St. Catharines” and offers a peek inside public and private spaces, from factories to family rooms, taverns to department stores of St. Catharines’ past.
Watch this space for more details and mark your calendars for April 29, 30 and May 1 for In the Soil, downtown St. Catharines.
